The Renovation of the Theatre will preserve the architectural integrity of the grand auditorium. Under the careful direction of lead architect Joe Wilcox of Kruger-Benson-Ziemer Architects, Inc., the beautiful details of the theatre will be celebrated including the vaulted wood ceiling, the ornate relief work in the proscenium arch, the wrought iron and tile work. Additional features of tile and detailed plaster and ceramic work found in the landmark Moorish tower will be incorporated in the new Bryan Family Foyer. Schipper Construction Company is the general contractor for the renovation. Construction began December 17, 2002 and was completed in October 2003.
To construct a new complex of similar size and features would cost over ten times the $3 million investment to renovate this unique facility. This project utilizes an existing, historic building and creates a visionary partnership of public and private resources, making it extremely cost effective.
Board Member Todd Jared who brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this project as the Technical Director of the Lobero Theatre, has worked closely with Theater Consultant Norman Russell, Richard Krystian and Dawn Ziemer of Kruger Bensen Ziemer Architects, and Project Manager Rod Lathim to create a quality, user-friendly venue that will serve multiple artistic disciplines.
Input for design and equipment elements was solicited from local artists, technicians, designers, students and representatives of performing arts organizations. The facility will be suited to present all types of performing arts events including: drama, musical theatre, dance, instrumental and vocal music, video projection, guest speakers, community meetings, workshops, classes, and rehearsals. |
